The Barefoot College in Rajasthan, India, runs short courses to train people from the villages in skills such as rainwater harvesting, installation of solar panels, and the importance of vaccinations and proper sanitation. As this article says, Barefoot College demonstrates that "solutions to rural poverty lie within the community and do not have to come from urban professionals from the outside".
