A blog post urging people to donate blood. Do check the related stories for useful information on the subject. My favourite org in this regard would be the Sankalp foundation and this article has many references to the same. They celebrated their 5th Anniversary recently.

Yeah I have seen it and voted for it also. There were too many references in the post and it was more to encourage people to be regular donors as against registered donors which is the case with SMS thingie! :) The related stories would carry this article also I believe and now that you have it in comments readers shouldn't miss it! ;)

My knowledge about Bone Marrow donation is pretty limited and was wondering how well spread is the awareness. In US the demand is very high. Found this interesting article on search...

I have seen quite a few marrow donation requests in India as well, though the procedure here seemed to be painful (a surgery to extract from the hip) which scared a lot of people away!
In the US, a few organizations are doing a good job in the area. Like National marrow donors program (marrow.org). They had a very efficient enrolment both at a conference I attended - a simple form to fill, a quick cheek swab and one could register as a marrow donor. There were lots of people who enrolled that day .. I did too :)

Found answers to my repetitive black outs. I guess my consumption of water has been pretty low. Of recent due to cyling it has increased and last time I donated blood it was better. Do go thru this excellent FAQ on such queries -

Yet another black out! It surprises me the turn out is so low when the need is so dire. So many don't just qualify - low bp, low platelete count, etc. I guess people need to realize how good it can be for them -
Hi,
Mayank, nice post and good to see it here.
Wonder if you have seen this or not, it also seems a good initiative.
