350. org is looking for two interns to join its India campaign based in Hyderabad, Andhra pradesh. 350. org works with multiple organizations in India and with a South Asian focus, aims to raise public awareness about the climate crisis and strengthen the region’s environmental movements.
350. org is an international campaign that works around the world to advocate for solutions to the climate crisis. 350 stands for the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, 350 parts per million. In 2009, 350. org organized over 5,200 simultaneous climate rallies in 182 countries, what CNN called “the most widespread day of political action in history.” This year, 350. org will continue to campaign around the world, working with hundreds of partner organizations and millions of individuals to “Get to Work” on climate solutions.
As an intern, you’ll join one of the top advocacy organizations in the world in a hands-on role. This is not a photocopying or coffee making job, but a chance to help lead one of the most ambitious international campaigns on the planet. As part of the India team you’ll be working with the 350. org South Asia Coordinator, based with you in Hyderabad, staff based in other parts of India and South Asia, and partner organizations across the region. Working on the campaign, you’ll learn or strengthen a variety of skills, including:
Online organizing and web strategy, Effective communications, Campaign planning and implementation, International climate policy and advocacy
Manage 350. org field campaign in India, including:
Developing campaign strategy
Recruiting new partners and individual event organizers
Working with partners to spread the campaign
Supporting event organizers on the ground
Fostering online community of organizers in India
Developing and distributing materials for the campaign
Strong writing/editing/proofreading and communication skills
Creativity and a “self-starter” quality, ability to work both individually without supervision as part of a team
Understanding of social media and email campaigning, including both online-to-offline and online-only campaigns is a plus
Knowledge / background of countries in South Asia is a plus
Fluency or proficiency in local languages like Hindi and Telugu is a plus.
