Subject: Yuvati Yuvak Mela Invite
Dear Madam/Sir,
Greetings from Akshara!
Akshara is a womens resource centre that works on the issue of gender
equality since the past 16 years. It works with youth in colleges and
community women in Mumbai. Since over a decade Akshara has had a vibrant
relation with the NSS Department of the University of Mumbai to forward the
cause of gender equality.
Akshara has taken the pioneering initiative of creating the Yuvati-Yuvak
Mela in 1998 in Mumbai. The mela which has reached more than 30,000 youth,
is an ideal method of imparting gender consciousness, issues of gender
rights and masculinity to young people. The Mela (Info Fair) provides a
festive mood with learning environment. The fair is full of interactive
games and information stalls where students are engaged in a discussion on
gender. Every game we play as children is turned around to do analysis of
one’s understanding about gender. Nearly 3000 youth from colleges will
participate in the Fair. The mela is divided in three sections, one for
young women, second for young men and third for common dialogues. This
division is to ensure that both of them are able to express themselves and
engage in dialogue freely and openly.
This year in collaboration with the NSS Department Mumbai and K.J Somaiya
College of Science and Commerce we are organizing the mela at K.J.Somaiya
Grounds. We are expecting around 3000 students for the mela over two days.
We invite people from your organisation to participate in the mela and have
lots of fun.
Date: 9th-10th Feb 2011
Venue: K.J.Somaiya College Ground, Vidyanagari, Vidyavihar
Timing:9pm-5pm
In case of query please contact: Mithun.S- 9833182013
