This Diwali, let's make a difference!
Diwali is the time for gifts and sweets to be given to our friends and family. Why not celebrate Diwali this time with a difference?
Rang De gift vouchers are a great way to give a gift for any occasion and help a micro-entrepreneur to take a step out of poverty at the same time. Buy a gift voucher on http://www.rangde.org/home.htm#buygiftvouchers and give your friends and family an opportunity to make a positive social impact.
Let's Share the colors of Diwali this year with those who are a little less fortunate than us and make a positive difference to the society!
What is Rang De all about?
Rang De is a non-profit organization working to make low-cost microcredit a reality in India. Microcredit is a powerful tool to eradicate poverty and is a very sustain
able alternative to charity.
Through RangDe we aim to connect individuals having the power to give directly with people from the BoP who have little or no access to financial services. Any individual can participate in RangDe by investing as little as Rs.500 in a borrower. The "social investor" gets his money back at the end of the loan period, along with a nominal financial return of 2%. But more important is the positive social impact being made by lending and helping the borrower to take a step out of poverty.
The borrowers we support are typically involved in activities such as animal husbandry, cattle rearing, tea stalls, vegetable vending, tailoring shops and other cottage industries. These are people to whom banks typically do not give any loans, and are usually in a debt-trap, thanks to the high interest rates charged by money lenders.
We are currently supporting more than 1450 borrowers in 10 different states in India and have disbursed more than Rs. 80 lakhs with 100% repayment. Our social investors and supporters are from different states in India and around the world.
