There is a mail floating asking people to get in touch with 1098 helpline for excess food. It is a hoax -
The number 1098 is owned by Childline India Foundation. This is what they say on their homepage:
Caution Warning : We understand there is a chain mail circulating that says - one should call up 1098 to pick up left over food after a party etc. so that it is not wasted. We are India's only and most widespread Children's phone emergency outreach service [1098] for children in need of care & protection. We do not pick up food or distribute food. This mail is not initiated by us, kindly do not circulate it. Your co-operation is appreciated.

Subject: Donation in Kind!!!
Dear Chandni,
Greetings for the day!!!
I am a student at School of Management ,IIT Bombay and we recently organized a festival Avenues 2009 ( Annual Business festival of IIT Bombay)at our campus on 1st November. We got some Sponsorship in Kind from Capital Foods( a renowned FMCG Company) . The food items includes soup packets and Noodles (similar to Maggi, we have to boil and then eat).
We would like to donate the cartons to an NGO and we would be pleased and obliged if somebody from the NGO can collect it from our campus as soon as possible (within this week).

I am Murtaza Bootwala, a fourth year undergraduate at
IIT Bombay. Here at IIT Bombay, we have 14 Hostels with each having its
own dining facilities. Each of these hostel have a large amount of
left-over food which is just thrown away. This year I along with a few
students at IIT are planning to utilize this food. To execute this idea
we would need some NGO which can take the responsibility of collecting
and distributing this meals. It would be very helpful to us if you could
provide us with a few NGO who have been doing social service in this
direction.
