Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam is a unique residential school which offers
rural children and young people free professional training in the
Kattaikkuttu theatre, in combination with comprehensive education (Tamil
medium) and all-round care.

The Gurukulam is based in Punjarasantankal Village, about 8 kilometers
outside Kanchipuram Town. It is run by the Kattaikkuttu Sangam, a
registered NGO, which depends on outside funding to carry out its
activities. Our artistic and educational programmes are closely linked
and aim to turn the artistic and intellectual talents of our pupils into
professional skills that will help these children to break away from a
cycle of chronic poverty. Educational groups at the Kattaikkuttu
Gurukulam are small and have between 8 and 20 pupils.

Job Title

The Kattaikkuttu
Gurukulam is looking for an enthousiastic, creative and qualified
TEACHER of Maths and Science to round out our educational team.


  • To teach Maths and Science to the 8th, 9th and 10th standards of the Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam.
  • Work together with a team of 4-5 other teachers
    and volunteers, prepare yearly syllabus and lesson plans, participate in
    weekly teachers' meetings, evaluate the progress of pupils and
    participate in monthly parents-teacher meetings.

Qualifications & requirements

  • Graduate with a B.Ed. in Maths or Science.
  • Fluent in Tamil; good English will be an asset.

  • Good pedagogical skills.

  • Able to use the Internet as a source of information to prepare lesson plans and syllabus.
  • Affinity with the arts and with our work in a rural community.
  • Flexible attitude as the time schedules of
    the Gurukulam tend to change in order to accommodate performances and
    artistic training.

Working timings

  • Monday to Friday (from 7:30am onwards).
  • Occasionally classes will take place on Saturdays.
  • Monthly parents-teachers meeting are scheduled on Sundays.

Remuneration & extras

  • Depending on qualifications and experience: between Rs. 5500/ and 10.000/.
  • Medical insurance.
  • Breakfast and lunch are provided free of cost by the Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam.
  • The Gurukulam encourages its teachers to participate in further professional training.
