Marathon Bottle'thrown
The other day we ran the Bangalore Marathon, it was very well organized, and it was great fun too. But one thing that bothered me was the amount of litter that was generated. This is very well captured in the following photo.

The marathon organizers did clear this litter, but I am not sure if all of this will be recycled. I also contributed something to this waste, but next time I would be careful to carry my bottle in the marathon that I run.
This is not problem with this marathon alone, I have seen lot of protests, candle light vigils leaving this dirty litter'ed trace behind. That is why I sometimes wonder if these events do more good or more harm to the society in general. Not taking anything away from the organizers I do hope that they do consider this aspect also in future.

An event for a good cause cannot be organized at the expense of other causes - be it a Christmas party for 1000s of kids where a lot of plastic is dumped end of day, or a 'long' bike (motor) ride for some cause, or such a marathon with a whopping 40000 plastics bottles left on the roadside.
The organizers should be more watchful. Hopefully, next time they will be watchful and would not carried away in advertisements and brand building when there are wonderful alternatives available:
