The awards given by the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation were set up to continue the legacy of Late Mr Jamnalal Bajaj to serve the society.
The Awards recognize constructive work in the area of rural development, application of science and technology, development of women and child, and promotion of Gandhian values outside India. The awards are given to suitably reward and honour the efforts of men and women who have dedicated their life to Gandhian work and ideals which Mr Jamnalal Bajaj, a close associate and fifth adopted son of Gandhiji, had cherished all his life.
Three national awards are given to individuals for their efforts in the aforesaid areas and an international award is given to an individual working towards the promotion of Gandhian thoughts and holding a foreign passport and nationality.
The awards carry a Citation, a Trophy and a sum of Rupees 5 lakhs or its equivalent foreign currency (for the international award).
About Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation
The Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was established in 1976 for promoting Gandhian constructive programmes and assisting constructive workers who devoted themselves to the national cause. The Foundation has undertaken several rural development programmes in the Wardha district, Maharashtra, Kheri district and Shikohabad near Ferozabad in Uttar Pradesh. It also extends financial assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in social and welfare programmes.
Award for Constructive Work
An individual, to qualify for nomination under this category of award, should have made an outstanding contribution in doing constructive work in one or more areas. The areas include a wide spectrum ranging from rural development in sanitation and infrastructure, healthcare, education, income generation activities to development of agriculture and local leadership in the villages. Award for Application of Science and Technology for Rural Development
Contributions toward the development of rural India with the assistance of Science and Technology calls for nomination under this category of award. The beneficiaries under it should include people from rural and tribal areas and from the less privileged/marginalised sections of the society. Award for Development and Welfare of Women and Children

International Award for Promoting Gandhian Values Outside India
This award was instituted in the year 1988 to commemorate the birth centenary of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj. This award recognizes the contribution of individuals outside India towards promotion of peace and harmony, abolishing exploitation and introducing innovative work to benefit society following Gandhian principles.
