The scholarship aims to provide opportunities for young people to study/train in a set of academic disciplines with direct relevance to India’s future needs. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated academic excellence, choosing to study in academic programmes not presently available in India, such as Development Studies; Quantitative Development Economics; Science, Technology and Society; Public Health/Community Health etc.
Eligible candidates are those who comply with all the following criteria:
(a) Indian nationals, domiciled in India, not more than 30 years as on May 1, 2010, with an excellent academic track record and some evidence of extra-curricular achievement. Candidates with work experience in the selected field of study may be preferred.
(b) Confirmed admission in the UK or USA for any academic course of study in the broad area of Development Studies with special focus on Development Economics, Public Health or Science-Technology-Society Studies. The course should be offered full-time in the UK or USA and not online or by distance learning.
The scholarship covers contribution towards Tuition fees and stipulated living expenses.
