Training Programme On Value Creation through Renewable Energy Models
TARA Livelihood Academy Announces Training Programme On Value Creation through Renewable Energy Models 18-20 December 2009 TARAgram, Appropriate Technology Centre, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh
Introduction With a strong industrial base and successful commercialization of technologies in wind, spv, solar thermal, small hydel, biogas and improved biomass stoves, India is in a position today to offer state of the art technology to other developing countries and play a leading role in the global movement towards sustainable energy development. India has well equipped institutions which organize training courses and provide technical assistance to managers and technicians of other developing countries who can then fabricate and install RE plants. Training for trainers is also undertaken so that they can formulate projects, implement and manage them. India, as one of the pioneers in the area of Renewable Energy Technologies, has the competitive edge in terms of prices when compared to other international players providing renewable energy equipments and services. Today's technological advancements have developed more efficient means of harnessing and using renewable energy sources, and these sources are gaining increasing popularity. They offer us alternatives to non-renewable energy sources, such as nuclear, oil, coal, and natural gas which can cause acid rain and may contribute to the overall warming of Earth's atmosphere known as the greenhouse effect. The more we use renewable energy, the more we benefit the environment, strengthen our energy security, create jobs locally, and help improve our economy. Renewable Energy Sources
- Using renewable energy can help to reduce your business' contribution to climate change and avoid using natural resources such as fossil fuels. It can also offer a wide range of other benefits to businesses:
- Customers, investors and other stakeholders increasingly want to deal with businesses which show that they are environmentally responsible. Improving your business' environmental credentials can therefore strengthen your brand.
- Renewable energy sources offer a more secure energy supply to ensure growth of other energy development enterprises. Fossil fuels won't last forever and supply is increasingly dependent on imports from overseas. Renewable energy sources are naturally occurring and won't run out. They may also provide a backup energy supply if the supply of fossil fuels fails.
- Gas and oil price rises are reflected in customer's energy bills. Renewable energy sources are not subject to the same price rises as fossil fuels.
- Renewable energy use will become more widespread, with legislation already placing targets for its use upon certain new developments. Switching sooner rather than later will give your business early experience of renewable energy.
- Businesses that use renewable energy are exempt from paying duty under the climate change levy. This duty is a tax on the energy used by businesses.
- Using renewable energy could help your organisation to build relationships and networks with businesses that have similar values. For example, you may be able to work with other local organisations on a renewable energy project.
- Although your organisation's core business may not be in the renewable energy sector, switching to renewable energy could still provide you with an additional revenue stream.
