What to reuse, how to recycle?

This is a wonderful article. To carry this discussion forward, I think we need to value and support the informal sector workers who do the bulk of the recycling: both the waste pickers and the kabadi wallas. I just finished a book by Kaveri Gill (Of Povery and Plastic) on this topic and it really opened my eyes. Too often we "blame the bag" in our words but end up enacting policies that are actually anti-plastic recyclers, not anti-plastic makers. Obviously using less is best. But the fact that India recycles 60-80% of our post consumer plastic is remarkable and should be celebrated. And it has very little to do with our formal waste management system, which is a mess! (And Gill argues convincingly that the poor conditions of scavengers cannot be blamed primarily on their employers--they are also victims; but that's another discussion!)
